Barcelona & Florence

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and Spain’s second largest city. Located on Spain’s northeastern Mediterranean coast, it has a very rich history and the city’s architectural treasures span more than 2000 years. High columns and ancient city walls provide a window into the Roman era of the city, while taking a stroll through the Gothic quarter, past tranquil plazas and soaring 14th-century cathedrals transports you to the Middle Ages. Barcelona has long inspired artists like Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, whose works are on display in the city’s myriad of museums.

Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is an open-air museum which has become more beautiful over the centuries. It’s a city-size shrine to the Renaissance enclosed by ancient walls that safeguard some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. Its streets are the same ones through which Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Machiavelli, Dante – many of the most brilliant minds in human history – threaded their way.

A Beautiful Setting

Highlights of what you’ll experience on your 12-day trip to Spain and Italy

Rome

Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with almost 3,000 years of globally influential art, culture, and architecture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Roman Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City boasts St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.

Uffizi Museum

The Uffizi Museum is one of the largest, most visited and most important museums in the world. It houses a huge collection of priceless works, mostly from the Italian Renaissance period. Officially opened to the public in 1765, today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Florence.

Sagrada Familia

Antoni Gaudi, one of the most famous figures of Catalan culture and world architecture, spent over 40 years designing the Temple of the Sagrada Familia, from 1883 until his death in 1926. Five generations have already witnessed the temple’s rise in Barcelona. Currently, 70% of the Basilica is finished and it could be completed by the first third of the 21st century.
